Questions

The things people ask us first

If your question is not answered here, call Stat Lab at (571) 741-2527 or send it through the contact page. We would rather answer it now than have you guess.

For most lab tests, yes. The order tells us which tests to collect and where the results should go. If you do not have one yet, send the request anyway and we will talk through what your provider needs to send.

The lab order if you have a paper copy, a photo ID, and an insurance card if your provider asked for one. Have the patient drinking water beforehand, since it makes the draw easier, and tell us about blood thinners or a history of fainting when you send the request.

Yes. We visit private homes and residential care settings across the DMV area. If several residents need lab work, tell us how many and we can plan a single visit that covers more than one patient.

The test itself is the same. What changes is where the collection happens: the bedside instead of a waiting room, with no drive, no long walk from the parking lot, and no hour spent in a chair that is not yours. Results go to the ordering provider either way.

Send the request and tell us the town. If the visit can be worked into a route we will say yes, and if it cannot we will tell you straight away.

Sometimes. Some orders ask for a specimen other than blood, or for a collection done at a particular time. Tell us what the order needs when you send the request, and we will confirm what can be collected at home and how it reaches the laboratory.

Yes, where the protocol allows collection in the home. Send us what the study requires and we will confirm what a home visit can cover before anything is scheduled. Studies usually have their own instructions for handling and shipping, so we follow those.

Both can be collected at the person's location rather than at a collection site. We work to the instructions that come with the order or the kit, and hand the specimen on the way the ordering party or testing company asks.
